We had a strong group of 8 skiers for the Elk Lakes 2019 trip. Temperatures were cold but the weather conditions were splendid otherwise with deep, blue skies, and bright sun for the majority of our time at Elk Lakes. The ski in took 3.5 hours and we spent the rest of the day settling in to the cabin and enjoying each others company. The next day we woke up to -29c temperatures and left the cabin for a ski when the temperature rose to -23c. We skied to the end Upper Elk Lake and back to the cabin. A distance of 8.5 kms round trip. No trail breaking was necessary as the route had been skied previously. We did another ski later that day to check out an alternate route for the ski out the following day, but decided it was wise to use the same route we came in on. We had one member who was having some minor knee problems and didn't want to tempt fate with a more demanding route. The ski out was cold, bright and sunny, albeit with more windy conditions, but everyone in the group was well prepared and comfortable skiing. My sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the trip. The dinners that were prepared were wonderful and there were lots of stories, interesting conversations, and laughs during our time together. Jim Baillies
